Expect a scenic 5-6 hour drive from Nairobi, with the journey transitioning from smooth highway to a rugged dirt track as you near the reserve. This change in terrain foreshadows the untamed beauty of Samburu.

Samburu National Park offers a captivating immersion into Kenya’s untamed northern ecosystem. Expect a diverse landscape, characterised by acacia woodlands, doum palm groves, and the life-giving Ewaso Ng’iro River. Wildlife viewing is a cornerstone of the experience, with opportunities to observe a range of iconic African animals like elephants, lions, zebras, and giraffes. However, Samburu shines in its unique species adapted to the arid environment. Look out for the long-necked gerenuk, adept at browsing on high foliage, and the Beisa Oryx, identifiable by its majestic, straight horns. Keen eyes might even be rewarded with sightings of elusive predators like lions and leopards engaging in their natural hunting behaviors.

Day 1:

 Early morning (around 6:30 AM): Depart Nairobi and head north towards Samburu.

  • The drive is scenic, taking you through the Kenyan countryside, past coffee plantations, pineapple farms, and agricultural fields. You’ll likely cross the equator along the way.

 Lunchtime: Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in Samburu National Reserve.

  • Check in and enjoy lunch.

 Afternoon: Embark on your first game drive in the park

  • Samburu is known for its unique wildlife, including the Beisa Oryx, the long-necked gerenuk, and the Grevy’s zebra. Keep an eye out for lions, elephants, leopards, and cheetahs as well.

 Evening:  Dinner & Overnight Stay at the camp.

  • Enjoy dinner at your lodge or camp, followed by relaxation and stargazing under the clear African sky.

Day 2:

 Early morning: Game Drive

  • Rise before dawn for another exciting game drive. The early mornings are often the best time to spot predators as they are most active during the cooler hours.

 Breakfast:  After Game Drive

  • Return to your lodge for breakfast and some relaxation.

  Morning:  Visit Samburu Village or go for a guided nature walk.

  • Depending on your departure time and interests, you could visit a Samburu village to learn about their culture and way of life. Alternatively, you could enjoy a guided nature walk or bird watching excursion.

 Mid-afternoon: Depart Samburu

  • Depart Samburu and head back to Nairobi, making a stop for lunch along the way.

 Early evening:  Arrival in Nairobi

  • Arrive back in Nairobi, bringing your Samburu adventure to an end.
